Tristan Rogers: A Fond Farewell to a Daytime Icon
The television industry is mourning the loss of Tristan Rogers, the beloved Australian actor renowned for his portrayal of Robert Scorpio on General Hospital. Rogers passed away on August 15 due to cancer at the age of 79. His legacy is celebrated by colleagues and fans alike, remembering him as a self-effacing, charismatic, and extraordinary friend and actor, whose career on the ABC series spanned over four decades.
Emma Samms, who starred opposite Rogers as his on-screen romantic partner Holly, expressed her deep sorrow on social media. She reminisced about their long-standing working relationship, noting, “I am incredibly saddened by the news of Tristan’s passing. Working alongside him for over 40 years was a privilege. He taught me the art of being natural on camera and to find joy and spontaneity, even amidst the challenging storylines our characters faced.”
Robert and Holly’s relationship became one of the most cherished supercouples in daytime television history.
Remembering Tristan Rogers
Several co-stars from General Hospital, both past and present, shared their memories and condolences. Rick Springfield described Rogers as a “witty fellow from the Great Southern Land,” and Genie Francis called him a “bright light” in the acting world.
On the same day, Frank Valentini, the Executive Producer of General Hospital, released a heartfelt statement saying, “The entire General Hospital family is deeply saddened by Tristan Rogers’ passing. For 45 years, Tristan has enthralled our viewers, and Port Charles won’t be the same without him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends during this tough time. We have truly lost a unique talent.”
The loss was also felt deeply on social media, where numerous actors shared their memories and expressed their grief. Jon Lindstrom and Thaao Penghlis shared their personal stories, emphasizing his humor and the mark he left on the industry.
Rogers’ impact extended beyond his role on General Hospital. He had been a part of the show since 1980 and made his last appearance on November 12, when his character left Port Charles. His talent was recognized with a Daytime Emmy for his performance in the digital drama Studio City.
