Hit BBC Comedy ‘Small Prophets’ Renewed for Season 2, Soars with High Ratings & Apple TV Deal!

The enigmatic Homunculi spirits are poised for another gathering.

BBC has greenlit a second season of Small Prophets following its success as a standout comedy, attracting an audience of up to 9.2 million viewers. Last month, Apple TV secured the global rights to the first season.

Conceived by Mackenzie Crook, known from the UK’s version of The Office, the comedy will shift from BBC One to BBC Two for its 2027 Season 2 premiere.

In the series, Pearce Quigley plays Michael Sleep, a Manchester local who grapples with the absence of his partner, Clea, who vanished under mysterious circumstances seven years ago.

Employed at a home improvement store, he concocts a scheme with his dad, Brian (played by Michael Palin), to conjure Homunculi, mystical fortune-telling spirits, right in his backyard shed.

As the plot unfolds, Michael forges an unexpected bond with Kacey (Lauren Patel), while coping with his demanding boss Gordon (Crook) and the prying eyes of his curious neighbors Bev (Sophie Willan) and Clive (Jon Pointing).

Emma Lawson, BBC’s interim comedy director, expressed: “Mackenzie has brought to life a universe brimming with enchantment, magic, and memorable characters, making it truly distinct from anything else on TV. We’re eager to see where the narrative leads next.”

Small Prophets is produced by Treasure Trove Productions and Channel X North. It is written, created, and directed by Crook. Crook, along with Lisa Thomas for Treasure Trove, and Alan Marke and Jim Reid for Channel X North, serve as the executive producers. Gill Isles is the producer, and Sphere Abacus is the international distributor.

Crook commented, “The prophets have confirmed that the second series will be realized next year, and as we know, they must tell the truth.”
