It seems that Richard Osman has inadvertently revealed that The Celebrity Traitors is set to make a comeback on the BBC later this month.
While participating in a live recording of the The Rest Is Entertainment podcast in London, Osman announced to the crowd that The Celebrity Traitors is scheduled to air on September 23.
Osman, alongside co-host Marina Hyde, was engaging with Joe Marler, the ex-England rugby player turned TV personality, who appeared in the show’s first season.
According to a report by the Press Association, during a discussion about the upcoming season, Marler quipped, “Isn’t it September 23 when the next series starts?”
Osman quickly responded, “Just to clarify, it’s strictly under wraps that it starts on September 23 … so let’s just call it the events of September 23 this year … seems like the secret’s out, right? Let’s not repeat that.”

A BBC source humorously remarked that they were unaware Marler was part of the BBC One scheduling team, but stopped short of confirming the September 23 premiere date.
During the event at the Southbank Centre, Osman mentioned that he had been told by participants of Season 2 that the filming was “quite intense.”
Deadline has gleaned from sources that Season 2 has been described as a “nightmare” and was challenging for its producers at Studio Lambert.
Marler added more context, stating to Osman and Hyde, “It felt like a different vibe than what we had. Ours was full of laughs, and everyone enjoyed the camaraderie, almost to the point where the producers had to remind us: ‘We’re trying to play a game here.’ This new group seemed to take it seriously from the get-go, probably feeling the pressure after seeing how successful the first series was.”
At the Edinburgh TV Festival last month, Kate Phillips, a BBC content director, hinted that the new season would be filled with tears and unexpected moments, hosted again by Claudia Winkleman.
The upcoming season boasts an impressive lineup, including The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey, Good Omens actor Michael Sheen, and Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant. Additional cast members include Industry star Myha’la, Barbie actress Sharon Rooney, Love Island host Maya Jama, Broadchurch’s Julie Hesmondhalgh, and Jerry Hall, the model and actress formerly married to Mick Jagger.
The inaugural season of The Celebrity Traitors was the top-rated show on British TV last year. It premiered on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in October 2025, attracting an average viewership of 14.9 million, peaking at 15.4 million during the finale. Comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner in a season that featured celebrities like Stephen Fry and Celia Imrie.
The Celebrity Traitors is produced by Studio Lambert Scotland for BBC One and iPlayer under the commission of Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning for the BBC. The executive producers for All3Media-backed Studio Lambert are Mike Cotton, Sarah Fay, Lewis Thurlow, and Katy Fox, with production executives Lynette Woods-Reynolds, Gemma Scholes, and Faye Donaldson. The BBC’s commissioning editors are Neil McCallum and Michael Jochnowitz.
The Traitors (Dutch title: De Verraders) was originally created and developed by IDTV in collaboration with RTL Creative Unit. All3Media International is the global partner for The Traitors and manages format and tape sales worldwide.
