Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Daytime Drama Category Revealed As Nominations Get Underway

On Wednesday, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the first round of nominees for the 52nd Daytime Emmys, set to take place on October 17 in Pasadena.

This year, only three daytime dramas have been nominated. According to NATAS, the ideal number of nominees is five, but the rules specify that “if there are fewer than ten entries in a category, no more than half can be nominated. This rule is strictly enforced by the National Awards Committee across all categories to maintain the high standards and integrity of the awards.”

Earlier today, nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series and Outstanding Lifestyle Program were announced on Entertainment Tonight, with Extra revealing the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series and Outstanding Instructional/How-To Program.

Additional categories will be announced later this evening, with the complete list of nominations to be made public at 9 a.m. PT tomorrow.

The new CBS soap, Beyond the Gates, which premiered in February, will not be eligible for this year’s awards as the nomination period was from January 1 to December 31, 2024, with the evaluation phase from May 22 to June 9.

Beyond the Gates will be eligible for nomination next year.

Following the removal of the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama category, this year sees the introduction of the Outstanding Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category, along with a division of the Culinary Series and Travel, Nature, and Adventure categories.
