ZDF’s ‘The Flaws’ Wins Seriencamp Competition Award

EXCLUSIVE: The German television series The Flaws has clinched the official competition award at this year’s Seriencamp Festival held in Cologne.

Produced by ZDF, The Flaws features a group of government office workers who are inadvertently sent to a high-level training program. This show is set to be showcased at the festival next month, coinciding with Seriencamp’s announcement of their complete screening schedule.

At Seriencamp, relationship-based dramedies take the spotlight with Disney+’s Alice and Steve, a notable winner at Canneseries, and Prime Video’s German version of Mexico’s Game of Keys, produced by UFA Fiction of Maxton Hall fame, both set for screening.

Additionally, HBO Max’s Braunschlag 1986 will premiere as Anke Greifeneder, a key programming executive at Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max, receives the Deadline German TV Disruptor Award. The festival will also feature a series titled Spotlight: Female Voices, which includes shows like Westend Girl starring Golden Globe nominee Helena Zegel, ZDFneo’s Serial Cleaner, and Escaping Bolivia.

While The Flaws is set to take home the major award, ORF-ZDF’s Buried and Sheep have secured the short-form award and the critics’ choice award, respectively, which will be decided by a jury that includes Arabella Wintermayr, Patrick Heidmann, and Dominik Porschen.

“This year’s array of series crosses borders with tales from Bangladesh to the United Kingdom, Germany to Austria, and Palestine to Norway,” remarked Gerhard Maier, the program director. “In some instances, as seen in The Flaws, nonverbal cues nearly take over spoken words. Meanwhile, in Sheep, sheep humorously voice their naivety, brought to life by talents like Jella Haase, Birgit Minichmayr, and Merlin Sandmeyer.”

The Seriencamp Festival, scheduled from June 9 to 11, will not only showcase these series but also include a conference and a segment called Plot Next that focuses on artificial intelligence and technology.
