Movie makers and enthusiasts are gathering in Austin for the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, which celebrates the merging of the tech, film, and music sectors through various programming and special events. The festival is scheduled for March 7-14.
In its 31st edition, SXSW offers an exciting mix of technology, film, and music, with red-carpet premieres and a wide range of programming.
The festival will kick off with Amazon MGM Studios debuting Another Simple Favor, a sequel featuring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively under the direction of Paul Feig, on its opening night. This sequel sees Stephanie and Emily exchanging suburban secrets for a mysterious adventure in Italy as Emily’s extravagant wedding in Capri evolves into a saga of murder, betrayal, and shocking developments. The film boasts an impressive cast including Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.

Other premieres today include Kevin Bacon: A Career Retrospective From Footloose to The Bondsman and The Threesome, starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruby Cruz, and Jaboukie Young-White.
Apple TV+ will present The Studio, starring Seth Rogen as a newly appointed studio head, as a highlight of the TV premieres on the opening night. The series also stars Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O’Hara, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.
The romantic film from Sony Pictures Classics, On Swift Horses, featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, Diego Calva, and Sasha Calle, will conclude the Film & TV Festival. The narrative revolves around Muriel (played by Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Elordi) whose promising new start is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Lee’s brother, leading Muriel into a clandestine life of racehorse gambling and an unforeseen romance.
With 20 additional projects, the festival’s lineup reaches 111 Features, which includes 90 World Premieres, and various other premieres and debuts across different categories. The TV Program will feature 17 TV projects, including 6 TV premieres.
Narrative Competition category will showcase World Premieres throughout the festival, including titles like Magic Hour; The Rivals of Amziah King; Satisfaction; Summer of 69; Sweetness, and Trash Baby. Documentary Spotlight will feature American Sons and I’m Carl Lewis!.
In addition to screenings, SXSW will host a variety of events including Keynotes, Speaker Sessions, Mentor Sessions, Networking Meetups, Music Showcases, Comedy Festival Showcases, Exhibitions, and Professional Development opportunities.
The awards for Narrative Feature Competition, Documentary Feature Competition, Poster Design, Special Awards, and all Short Film Program winners, who are eligible for Jury Awards in their respective categories, will be announced on Wednesday, March 12.
