NBC’s renowned late-night show paid tribute to Catherine O’Hara, a cherished two-time host and briefly, a cast member, following her passing at age 71. The Emmy-winning actress was honored with a tribute card displaying moments from her involvement in the show, which aired just before the final act of the episode, led by host Alexander Skarsgård and musical act Cardi B. The tribute can be viewed below.
In 2024, O’Hara reflected on her brief stint during the show’s sixth season in the early 1980s. Transitioning from the Canadian sketch show SCTV, one might assume she would easily adapt, yet O’Hara confessed that she left after just one week, choosing to return to her “comedy family” at SCTV without participating in any episodes.
Her departure apparently did not create lasting friction, as O’Hara was invited back to host SNL twice: first in April 1991 during Season 16 with musical guests R.E.M., and again in October 1992 during Season 18, accompanied by the musical group 10,000 Maniacs.
