“Working here has been such a privilege,” expressed Bowen Yang in his last sketch on Saturday Night Live.
After spending six and a half seasons on the show, Yang bid farewell with a touching sketch featuring his friend and Wicked co-star Ariana Grande, and the musical guest for the evening, Cher.
Portraying a Delta Airlines lounge worker, Yang’s character may have been fictional, but his tears and the sentiment felt deeply sincere.
“Today marks my last day. It’s bittersweet; I’ll miss everything about this place—from its scent to the celebrities that pass by. Just last week, Josh O’Connor stopped by,” he shared, alluding not just to the airport lounge but to his experiences at Studio 8H.

Yang reflected on his SNL tenure: “Some parts were wonderful, others were tough, and a lot of it never made it to air.”
Having Grande host his final episode made it even more special, with both visibly moved by the moment. “I wouldn’t miss your last day for the world,” Grande told him.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked here and wanted to savor it just a bit longer. It’s definitely about the people. I’ve loved every person here; they’ve supported me immensely, especially my boss,” Yang added.
In the sketch, Cher played his boss, symbolizing both her and SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
The episode served as a fitting tribute to Yang, one of the show’s standout talents. He initially joined as a writer in 2018 for Season 44 and became a cast member by Season 45, eventually gaining repertory status by Season 47.
Yang has been responsible for numerous viral sketches, from playing the iceberg that sank the Titanic to impersonating George Santos. He recreated another memorable moment with Aidy Bryant, who returned for the first time since her departure in 2022 to feature as a Trend Forecaster on Weekend Update.
Although the episode wasn’t centered solely around Yang, he made a memorable appearance during Grande’s monologue. “I absolutely loved your line in Wicked,” she said. “Thank you,” he responded. “You’re welcome,” she continued, with Yang concluding, “No, no, that was actually my line in the movie: Thank you.”
He also portrayed Fuller McAllister, the younger cousin of Macaulay Culkin’s character Kevin in a darkly humorous Home Alone parody, where he appeared without any arms.
Grande directly acknowledged Yang during the closing goodnights.
“Any success I achieve from here on out will be because of this place,” Yang stated in his final appearance. “This will always be home.”
