Shane Gillis is set to make a comeback to Studio 8H this weekend, reigniting discussions about his controversial exit from Saturday Night Live in 2019.
The speculation was fueled after a background actor on the NBC sketch show claimed that cast member Bowen Yang was responsible for Gillis’s dismissal. In response, Yang addressed these claims in the comments section of an Instagram post.
“Can we acknowledge that Bowen Yang bitched him off the show- and he’s the bigger man to come host after being unfairly ditched bc of a whiny queen,” commented comedian Michelle Best on a clip from the show. “SNL fired him as a hater. He’s not. He’s very kind and has smart humor and stands up to bullying. Good for him!”

“Didn’t do any of this but I wrote the sketch you were a background actor in,” Yang replied, adding a smiley face.
Best later mentioned in a post celebrating SNL‘s 50th anniversary that she has been omitted from more sketches than she has appeared in.
