“In this moment, if there’s anyone we’re incredibly grateful to acknowledge, it’s Catherine O’Hara,” expressed Seth Rogen, the illustrious creator-director-star-writer of The Studio, during his speech upon winning Best Comedy Series Director at the DGA Awards on Saturday.
Seth Rogen, alongside his collaborator Evan Goldberg, received accolades for their direction of the episode titled “The Magic Hour.”
“Growing up in Canada, Catherine was, without exaggeration, our hero from childhood,” shared Studio co-creator/director/writer Goldberg.
“Absolutely. For me, Home Alone was essentially the movie that ignited my passion for filmmaking,” Rogen commented, “She’s the one always shouting ‘Kevin! Kevin!’ in the film, and it became a running joke for us on set, shouting ‘Evan! Evan!’ just like that.”

Rogen continued, “What’s truly remarkable about her is her ability to be a complete genius while also being the kindest person you could ever meet. Directing her was a privilege, and we strove to make the series worthy of her talent and kindness. So, while we thank the DGA, it’s Catherine O’Hara who deserves our deepest gratitude for enriching our lives with her presence.”
Catherine O’Hara passed away last week in Los Angeles at the age of 71 following a brief illness. In The Studio, she portrayed a studio executive who transitions into a producer role after being fired, a part loosely inspired by Amy Pascal, the former chairwoman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.
For her performance in the series, which is a production of Apple TV/Lionsgate, O’Hara was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys this past September.
