High Potential, the ABC procedural series, honored Nicolas Jean during its closing credits.
Nicolas Jean, a French screenwriter, helped create HPI, the original show that the American version starring Kaitlin Olson is based on.
The tribute, “In Memory of Nicolas Jean,” was displayed at the conclusion of Episode 7 (see below).
Earlier this month, SACD, the French writers’ guild, announced the sudden death of Jean on September 29.
Florence Philipponnat, a screenwriter and SACD administrator, posted on Instagram: “Nicolas Jean joined the industry thirteen years ago and experienced a rapid ascent. A self-taught individual with an unconventional background that he channeled into his storytelling, he soon became known as a gifted and indispensable scriptwriter for television.”
Available to Stream
“Nicolas had a knack for creatively crafting unique concepts, ignoring traditional constraints. He was also adept at recruiting talented writers to collaborate and develop ideas, driven by his love for sharing and kindness,” Philipponnat added.
HPI: High Intellectual Potential, co-created by Nicolas Jean with Stéphane Carrié and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, premiered in 2021 and continues to release new episodes. In the U.S., it is available for streaming on Hulu under the title HIP: High Intellectual Potential.
The American adaptation, High Potential, features Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillroy, a single mother with a unique ability to solve crimes. The show’s ensemble cast includes Daniel Sunjata as Adam Karadec, Javicia Leslie as Daphne Forrester, Deniz Akdeniz as Oz, Amirah J as Ava Gillroy, Matthew Lamb as Elliot Radovic, and Judy Reyes as Selena Soto. The second season introduced Steve Howey as Jesse Wagner, the new captain of the precinct.
