EXCLUSIVE: As the curtain is set to close on the first season of It’s Florida, Man tomorrow, Nov. 22, HBO has officially greenlit a second season of the late-night comedy series.
Serving as a testament to HBO’s innovative approach, It’s Florida, Man is a budget-friendly anthology comedy series that has not only demonstrated the viability of the network’s economical production model but has also set the stage for the introduction of similar formats in its late-night lineup.
During an investor call last year, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, expressed that while drama series generally tend to yield higher returns, there’s a clear directive to redefine the comedy segment. This involves blending high-caliber, star-led projects with more quirky, cost-effective productions, especially as the entire television industry aims to reduce the financial burdens of comedic content production.
Other comedic projects at HBO that have embraced this lower-cost strategy include Los Espookys and How To with John Wilson.

The recent success of It’s Florida, Man underscores the effective balance of cost and viewer engagement that HBO aims for. Despite minimal promotional efforts due to the impacts of hurricane Milton in Florida, the series has impressively secured an average of 2.3 million viewers across various platforms since its premiere in October, positioning it among the Top 3 most-viewed series on Max. It has also been well-received by critics, boasting an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Produced by Rough House Pictures (known for HBO’s Eastbound & Down and The Righteous Gemstones) and Range Studios, It’s Florida, Man explores outrageous true stories from Florida, brought to life by the very people who experienced them. The show combines interviews with Floridians and dramatized reenactments featuring a diverse cast of actors and comedians, highlighting the state’s most bizarre and viral stories.
The show’s inaugural season spanned six episodes and featured a roster of over two dozen guest stars, including notable names like Anna Faris, Randall Park, Jake Johnson, Jon Gries, Sam Richardson, Ego Nwodim, Juliette Lewis, and Simon Rex.
It’s Florida, Man is the brainchild of Mark Herwick for Range Studios and Jeff Tomsic, who also serves as the director. The series is executive produced by Danny McBride and Brandon James of Rough House Pictures, alongside showrunner Bryan Storkel.
