Production for Season 3 of Cross is underway, and the series’ creator and showrunner, Ben Watkins, shared insights into the upcoming season. He explained that the new season on Prime Video will delve into themes of addiction, seen through the main character Alex Cross’ dedication to his quest for justice.
“It’s crucial that we witness our protagonist tackle internal conflicts and those affecting his close circle. In Season 3, the theme of addiction surfaces, not through substances like drugs or alcohol, but through Cross’ compulsive need to solve cases,” Watkins explained during a Deadline-hosted Q+A at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, where he appeared alongside series star and executive producer Aldis Hodge.
Watkins has outlined a four-season arc for the series but mentioned the potential for extending it further. “The longevity of Cross depends on the evolution of its characters,” he remarked.

The show, a collaborative production between Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios, quickly amassed a viewership of 40 million globally within the first 20 days of its debut on the streaming service. It was ranked as the third most popular premiere of the year 2025 on the platform, leading to the swift approval of a third season in March.
Hodge, who is also involved in the upcoming Road House sequel, discussed his deep connection with Cross.
“The scripts provided a sense of liberation,” he stated. “What struck me was how the character was immediately portrayed as intelligent, assertive, and multifaceted without compromising his integrity or humanity.”
“He represents a Black man navigating the justice system without yielding to prejudices,” he added.
Watkins also discussed the importance of presenting a strong, uncompromising Black lead. “I specifically wrote scenes to challenge executives, showing them a Black man who excels in his field and does not shy away from being the smartest in the room. I’ve faced hesitations before, with feedback suggesting the character appeared too assertive or aggressive.”
Both Watkins and Hodge emphasized their commitment to fostering an inclusive and inspiring production environment on the set of Cross.
“Creating a magical atmosphere on set is essential, and that comes from collaborating with the right people who share a positive and creative mindset,” Watkins noted.
Hodge further elaborated on the leadership role on set, “Being first on the call sheet means you’re the first to address and solve issues. It’s not about others serving you; it’s about you serving the project and setting a positive example for everyone.”
