Kyle MacLachlan Is Open To Reprising ‘Desperate Housewives’ Role: “That’d Be Fun”

Kyle MacLachlan is considering a return to Wisteria Lane as new characters are set to join the iconic street.

The star of Desperate Housewives expressed his openness to either reviving his role as the less-than-ideal husband Orson Hodge or tackling a brand-new character in a potential revival of the Marc Cherry-created series, which was a hit on ABC from 2004 to 2012.

“It would definitely be enjoyable,” MacLachlan shared with People. “The set for Wisteria Lane is still up on the Universal Studios backlot. It’s even part of the studio tour!”

MacLachlan first appeared as Orson Hodge, who would become Bree’s (Marcia Cross) second husband, towards the close of Season 2 in 2006. His character quickly became central in Season 3, which delved into the mystery surrounding his first wife’s vanishing.

“Regarding a possible Desperate Housewives comeback, if it ever happens — and assuming they’d want me back — I’d have to evaluate the role and understand what the creators have in mind for the character,” he explained.

“So, I would approach it as if it were a completely new project. I’d weigh how I feel about the role, the character, the creative direction, and everything involved,” MacLachlan added. “It would be like evaluating any new opportunity that comes my way.”

The Golden Globe winner, who opted not to return to his role in Sex and the City, mentioned his 2017 return to Twin Peaks as Dale Cooper. He approached it with a fresh perspective after David Lynch chose to take the character on a new journey rather than continuing from where they left off. “It allowed me to explore multiple facets of my character in the reboot,” he said.

Following an exclusive report by Deadline, Kerry Washington confirmed in May that her Onyx Collective offshoot Wisteria Lane is under development, drawing inspiration from Desperate Housewives.

Developed by Natalie Chaidez, Wisteria Lane is envisioned as a fun, sexy, and darkly comedic soap/mystery. It will feature a cast of five diverse friends and sometimes rivals living in a seemingly idyllic neighborhood. Despite their dream-like existence with immaculate homes and perfect families, these neighbors harbor dark secrets beneath their flawless exteriors.

Desperate Housewives originally starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan. They played a group of friends grappling with life’s complexities and mysteries following the suicide of their neighbor Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong).
