EXCLUSIVE: ITV has approved the production of Inside Iran: War & Revolution. This unique documentary takes viewers undercover in Iran, featuring firsthand accounts from journalists and civilians involved in the 2025-2026 protests and the more recent confrontations with the U.S.
Produced by the UK-based documentary studio Zandland, this film continues their collaboration with ITV following their BAFTA-nominated work on Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s Army.
Inside Iran: War & Revolution offers a narrative from the viewpoint of an undisclosed Iranian journalist. It provides exclusive insights into the lives of those under the nation’s authoritarian rule. The documentary details the hardships faced by protesters during the uprising and captures the severe measures taken by the government, including scenes from massive protests and hospitals where injured protesters were treated and faced the threat of arrest. It further explores the intense conflict between Iran and the U.S. from an insider’s perspective.
Filming within Iran brings substantial danger. The documentary highlights the immense risks taken by those involved through a warning displayed on screen: “Almost all of the footage in this film was filmed inside Iran by citizens taking significant personal risks.” To protect the identities of those involved, some footage has been anonymized and voices modified.

Zandland, led by British-Iranian filmmaker Ben Zand and based in London and Liverpool, leverages platforms like YouTube and digital distribution channels in addition to traditional broadcasting methods. Zand also directed Inside Iran: War & Revolution.
“The film captures an untenable situation and the breadth of its impact on those enduring it,” stated Zand. “Our contributors express a mix of grief, rage, hope, and heartbreak, often simultaneously and in unexpected ways. As a British-Iranian, this project is incredibly personal to me, but the true ownership of this film belongs to the Iranians who risked everything to reveal their truth.”
Tom Giles, ITV’s Controller of Current Affairs, who previously commissioned Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s Army and also greenlit this documentary, remarked, “This is a potent and important piece of journalism, brought to life by individuals who have faced great dangers to document and witness events that have captivated global attention throughout the year, events they have lived through themselves.”
“These are the urgent, passionate, fearful, and inspiring voices from within Iran that we seldom hear,” he added.
The documentary will premiere on ITV1 and the streaming service ITVX on August 9. It is produced by Maya Rostowska, with Ben Zand and Josh Reynolds serving as Executive Producers.
