The Bill Belichick era at Chapel Hill has officially begun.
This Monday marked a significant milestone as Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina celebrated their initial major transfer portal victory with the addition of former Holy Cross offensive lineman Christo Kelly to the Tar Heels, according to On3.
Kelly’s commitment marks the first since Belichick’s surprising decision to become the head coach at UNC last week. Earlier that day, Belichick appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and teased potential upcoming transfer moves for North Carolina. Just hours later, Kelly’s decision to join UNC confirmed Belichick’s hints.
Since 2020, Kelly, a redshirt senior, has made significant strides at Holy Cross. In 2023, he earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Third Team as a key interior offensive lineman. His experience will be crucial in enhancing the offensive line for the Tar Heels in the upcoming 2025 season.
As Belichick implied earlier, we can expect a series of new transfers as he aims to strengthen the North Carolina team in his first year. Despite UNC’s balanced 6–6 record in the 2024 season, their 3–5 performance in ACC games only secured them a 13th place finish in the conference.
