How ‘Chicago P.D.’ Wrote Off Kiana Following Toya Turner Exit

WARNING: This article contains significant spoilers from the Season 13 premiere of NBC’s Chicago P.D.

In the latest season opener of NBC’s Chicago P.D., viewers discovered the fate of Toya Turner’s character, Officer Kiana Cook, after the actress decided to leave the show.

Kiana was last spotted in the Season 12 finale, titled “Vows,” where she attended Detective Kim Burgess’ wedding to Officer Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, as a distinguished guest.

In the newly aired episode, fittingly named “Consequences,” it is unveiled that Kiana has “secured a permanent position in the 17th,” as Voight’s Intelligence Unit is temporarily sidelined following an inquiry into his role in the demise of Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (portrayed by Shawn Hatosy).

Voight was seen confirming her new role during a discussion with the new authority in the city, Commander Devlin (Joel Murray), who decided against reactivating his team despite them being exonerated in the Reid case. The head of the Intelligence Unit was eager to have his team resume operations before losing more members.

Turner was first seen on the series in 2024, introduced early in Season 12. Her character, a former tactical officer demoted to patrol by her supervisor for his tendency to shirk significant duties to safeguard his pension, caught the eye of Intelligence by assisting in the capture of the murderer of their recent team member, Detective Emily Martel. She was later recruited by Voight (Jason Beghe), whom she assisted on a case involving teenage girls who were killing their abusers.

In June, Deadline exclusively announced Turner’s departure from the series after just one season, for undisclosed reasons.

At the time of her exit, Turner expressed, “My journey with Chicago P.D. has reached its end. This series has tested me, honed my skills, and showcased my capabilities. It has transformed me both as a performer and in my craft, leaving me enriched, clear-minded, and ready for new adventures.”
