Marco Grazzini is exiting the popular Netflix series Virgin River after a six-season run, aiming to pursue new opportunities in his acting career.
The actor, known for his role as Mike Valenzuela, will make his final appearance on the show in Season 7.
“It’s not unusual for actors to leave a show after a successful stint, and that’s especially true for a hit series like Virgin River,” Grazzini mentioned in a press release to Deadline. “Playing Mike for six seasons has been an incredible experience.”
He added, “I’m filled with gratitude towards our cast and crew and the fans, whose incredible support has made the show a success. I am looking forward to exploring new creative avenues in my career.”
The news of Grazzini’s departure was first reported by Deadline as Season 7 concluded. Grazzini joined the series in its second season as a recurring character and was promoted to a regular by Season 3. His character, Mike Valenzuela, is a close Marine buddy of Martin Henderson’s character, Jack Sheridan, and serves as a police detective.
Future Developments
The final episodes of Season 7 saw Grazzini’s character growing closer to a visiting medical investigator who revealed her feelings for him. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith hinted that Mike would be “put on the back burner for a while until we develop a suitable storyline.”
Smith elaborated, “Given the numerous relationships already in play, we wanted to give Mike a fitting end to this storyline as he reconnects with Victoria to see what the future holds. I hold Marco in high regard and wouldn’t rule out a significant return for his character if the right story comes along.”
Virgin River features Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe, a midwife and nurse practitioner who moves to Northern California looking for a fresh start in the seemingly tranquil town of Virgin River, only to find that life there is far from serene. The show debuted in 2019 and features a diverse cast including Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, and Ben Hollingsworth, among others.
