BREAKING NEWS: Patrick John Flueger, a staple on NBC’s Chicago P.D., part of the show’s Intelligence Unit at the 21st District, will be stepping away temporarily to address a private issue, according to inside sources. Flueger, who portrays Officer Adam Ruzek, is expected to rejoin the cast later in the season.
His temporary exit was not planned, prompting adjustments to the show’s scripts to account for Ruzek’s absence. It has been mentioned that Flueger is navigating a challenging time, which includes a reported incident involving alcohol on the set.
The Chicago series, produced collaboratively by Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment, has a history of supporting its cast through personal challenges. For instance, Taylor Kinney from Chicago Fire also took a break, returning after 10 months.
Available to Stream on Deadline
Since the inception of Chicago P.D., Flueger’s character, Adam Ruzek, has been crucial to the team led by Sergeant Hank Voight (played by Jason Beghe). Ruzek and Detective Kim Burgess (played by Marina Squerciati) recently married in the finale of Season 12, after a long-standing on-and-off relationship. They have an adopted daughter, Makayla, who became part of their family in Season 8. Additionally, Ruzek is caring for his father, Disco Bob (Jack Coleman), who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease last season and is currently in a nursing home.
In the current Season 13, the plot thickens with the aftermath of actions taken by Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy), orchestrated by Voight. With the team cleared to resume duties, Ruzek and Burgess are now focusing on their family life and their roles on the streets of Chicago.
