How Boise State's Win Over UNLV Impacts College Football Playoff Bracket
The Broncos achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff (CFP) on Friday night.

Boise State has become the first team to lock in a spot in the newly expanded 12-team College Football Playoff format.

With an impressive 209 yards on the ground from Heisman Trophy hopeful Ashton Jeanty, the Broncos triumphed over UNLV 21–7 at Albertsons Stadium on Friday night. This victory not only clinched the 2024 Mountain West championship for Boise State but also guaranteed them a spot in the playoff as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions.

“This means everything,” Jeanty expressed during the ESPN post-game interview. “It’s a dream come true. I love this team.”

Currently ranked No. 10 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings as of Tuesday, Boise State is in a good position to possibly receive a first-round bye into the quarterfinals as one of the four highest-ranked teams among the automatic bids. However, this is not yet certain, and the outcome of the Big 12 championship game on Saturday between No. 15 Arizona State and No. 16 Iowa State could potentially affect Boise State’s top-four seeding.

The allocation of the other three first-round byes will likely hinge on the results of Saturday’s conference championship games in the Big Ten (No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 3 Penn State), the SEC (No. 2 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia), and the ACC (No. 8 SMU vs. No. 17 Clemson).

The final College Football Playoff bracket will be announced on ESPN at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday.
