Sigourney Weaver recently shared her thoughts on the new addition to the Alien series, a saga that began with her starring role in the 1979 film directed by Ridley Scott.
Alien: Earth, which debuted last month, has been receiving widespread acclaim, including positive feedback from the iconic Ripley herself.
While promoting her latest film Dust Bunny at the Toronto International Film Festival, Weaver discussed the FX series, which is set in the near future.
“I appreciate that it’s not just focused on the alien itself. It’s more about envisioning the kind of world we might inhabit in 100 years,” Weaver explained to Collider. “The series broadens its horizons beyond just the alien narrative. It delves into our future world, examining the crucial issues, the pervasive influence of greed.”
She added, “It really expands on the themes historically associated with the Alien franchise, and it’s executed with a superb cast and high production quality. It’s hard to believe this is a TV series.”
Watch on Deadline
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth portrays a world dominated by five major corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. This era, known as the Corporate Era, features cyborgs (humans enhanced with artificial components) and synthetics (AI-powered humanoid robots) living among humans.
The narrative takes a turn when the young genius and CEO of Prodigy Corporation introduces a groundbreaking innovation: hybrids (humanoid robots integrated with human consciousness). The first hybrid, named “Wendy” (portrayed by Sydney Chandler), signifies a new chapter in the quest for immortality. After a spaceship from Weyland-Yutani crashes into Prodigy City, “Wendy” and other hybrids come face-to-face with new, more daunting life forms than previously imagined.
Alien: Earth is a creation of Noah Hawley and features a cast that includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Jonathan Ajayi, David Rysdahl, Diêm Camille, Moe Bar-El, Adrian Edmondson, and Timothy Olyphant.
