‘Euphoria’ Third (And Likely Final) Season Gets Another Boost With $19.4M Tax Credit

HBO has recently managed to gather the renowned cast of Euphoria once again and received additional encouraging news regarding the highly anticipated third season of the acclaimed drama series, which includes a beneficial tax credit.

This morning’s announcement of the latest beneficiaries of California’s tax incentives listed an HBO “ongoing TV series” under the alias LA Nights, which has been granted a $19.4M credit. As previously suggested by Deadline, LA Nights is actually a pseudonym for Euphoria.

The series, known for its detailed portrayal of youth, continues to shoot in and around Los Angeles. Although the first two seasons were filmed using Sony’s soundstages, sources indicate that Season 3 will move to the Warner Bros. lot, maintaining the production within the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate, which also owns HBO.

Furthermore, the production of Euphoria Season 3 qualifies for an additional 5% tax credit for shooting beyond the Hollywood zone, defined as any area outside a 30-mile radius centered around La Cienega and Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles.

Production is set to commence in January; Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, disclosed in July that the upcoming season will consist of eight full-length episodes.

It is widely anticipated that this season will be the series’ final chapter. Sam Levinson’s project features a cast whose careers have skyrocketed, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Colman Domingo, all of whom are confirmed to return for Season 3.

“The new season is underway; I’ve reviewed the scripts, we’re enthusiastic and moving forward,” Bloys commented last month, highlighting a narrative leap that advances the characters beyond high school. Initially set for this year, the shooting has been rescheduled to January 2024, allowing Levinson additional time to finalize scripts and the cast to pursue other projects.

Colman Domingo recently expressed his excitement to Deadline, stating, “I’m eager to reunite with our cast. Sam has some fantastic ideas ready, and I can’t wait for us to start production very soon.”

Since its second season debut in January 2022, Euphoria has faced challenges including the 2023 WGA strike and the tragic losses of cast member Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen.

The executive production team includes Sam Levinson, Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Zendaya, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Gary Lennon, Mirit Toovi, Tmira Yardeni, and Yoram Mokady, with production in collaboration with A24.
