CAUTION: The content below contains significant spoilers from Season 3, Episode 6 of HBO Max’s “And Just Like That…” named “Silent Mode.”
Devoted followers of Sex and the City and its continuation, And Just Like That, have witnessed the ups and downs in the relationship between Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan Shaw (John Corbett).
Now in their third attempt at a romance, the couple faces a devastating revelation that threatens to end their relationship once again. In the past, on the original HBO series, Carrie shattered Aidan’s heart multiple times, primarily due to her prolonged, damaging affair with Mr. Big (Chris Noth). With Mr. Big no longer alive in And Just Like That, Carrie and Aidan have found their way back to each other.
Their rekindling has been warmly received by Parker, who expressed her joy in reconnecting with Corbett in a recent interview with Deadline.

“John is just a joy to work with and act alongside, and I mean that sincerely. He’s known for his positive attitude and energy. He puts a lot of thought into every line, considering it deeply the night before. He’s incredibly committed and brings such a delightful presence on camera, which makes the whole process enjoyable,” Parker explained.
She added, “That’s not to say the work is always simple or straightforward, but we both really cherish figuring things out together. I’m pleased that while we had planned a break, neither of us could really stick to it, which meant more time with John Corbett, and that brought us all a lot of joy and happiness. I’m truly fond of him; he’s a wonderful person.”
Their strong offscreen bond helps fuel the intense romantic connection between their characters, which faces another test in today’s episode. Currently, Carrie and Aidan are living apart; he is in Virginia co-parenting his three sons with his ex-wife, Kathy, while Carrie remains in New York in the home they were supposed to share. Their plan was to live separately for five years, but they failed to iron out critical details, leading to misunderstandings and hurt.
In the episode titled “Silent Mode,” Aidan unexpectedly visits their home to surprise Carrie with a romantic gesture. He throws a small rock at a window to catch her attention but accidentally breaks a priceless vintage glass pane. While discussing the mishap, Aidan confesses that he and his ex-wife Kathy had been intimate.
“I slept with Kathy,” Aidan divulges after an affectionate moment with Carrie.
Confused, Carrie responds, “What do you mean you slept with Kathy?”
He explains that it happened spontaneously during a moment of mutual consolation. He assures her it was a mistake, one that both he and Kathy acknowledge. Carrie remains silent, absorbing the shock of his admission.
Carrie, attempting to process her thoughts, says, “It’s strange, but I might understand… Or maybe I’m just in shock… No, I do understand. I can see how it might happen.”
At this moment, Carrie and Aidan find themselves empathizing with each other’s past actions. Carrie realizes how easy it is to be swept away by old emotions and the errors that can follow. For perhaps the first time, Aidan grasps that Carrie’s past indiscretion with Mr. Big wasn’t meant to hurt him, even though it did. It was a moment of giving in to undeniable feelings without considering the consequences.
“I was really happy with that conversation. I loved filming that scene. I love the spaciousness of the room. It was challenging for him to confess to Carrie, and I appreciate how Carrie didn’t judge him harshly. What I also liked is how that conversation led to more questions about our assumptions, like ‘What did you think I meant by the sabbatical? What did those five years imply?’ Misunderstandings like these are common in relationships, especially deeply invested ones. You think you’re always on the same page, but that’s often not the case,” Parker shared.
“I really love that scene. I think it’s very true to life. Plus, people often act out of character when faced with tragedy, disappointment, or deep concern. Seeking comfort is a perfectly natural human response,” she added.
Parker acknowledges that fans are deeply invested in seeing Carrie and Aidan make it work this time around, whatever that might entail. Both characters have been married and have families, so rushing to the altar isn’t necessarily on their agenda, at least not immediately. But it wouldn’t be surprising to see them commit to each other more deeply, considering their history.
As for where their relationship is headed, Parker remains tight-lipped.
“I’m not going to divulge anything. I don’t want to hint at anything specific. I will just say that it’s wonderful to have such a storyline with an actor capable of delivering it all. It’s time well spent,” she concluded.
