ABC has unveiled a detailed preview for Shifting Gears, a new sitcom starring Tim Allen as a headstrong, recently widowed proprietor of a vintage automobile restoration business. He somewhat reluctantly agrees to let his daughter and her children live with him.
In this series, Kat Dennings portrays his relative. The show is set to debut on January 8. Other principal actors in Shifting Gears include Seann William Scott as Gabriel, an employee at the garage, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. In December, Deadline announced that Jenna Elfman will have a recurring role as Eve Drake, an energetic choreographer and the proprietor of a dance studio located opposite Parker Customs.
ABC ordered this comedy series last summer but decided to proceed without its original creators, Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully. Michelle Nader has stepped in as the new showrunner. This marks her third collaboration with Dennings, following their previous work together on 2 Broke Girls and Dollface, where Nader was also the executive producer and showrunner.
Available on Deadline
Tim Allen not only stars in the show but also serves as an executive producer alongside Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily, and John Amodeo. John Pasquin directed the pilot episode, while Dennings contributes as a producer.
The production of the ABC series is handled by 20th Television, which is a division of Disney Television Studios.
