BBC Names New Host for ‘Race Across The World’ Spin-Off Following Scott Mills’ Exit

The BBC has quickly chosen a new host for tonight’s debut of the Race Across the World spin-off, following the sudden departure of Scott Mills.

As reported by Deadline yesterday, the BBC is proceeding with the Detour companion podcast to its popular entertainment series, despite the recent firing of its original host, Mills, just before its scheduled launch. This week, the BBC found itself at the center of controversy again after it was disclosed that Mills had been investigated for serious sexual offense charges in the past, though the case was eventually dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Tyler West, a TV host and DJ who appeared on last year’s third season of Celebrity Race Across the World alongside Molly Rainford, will replace Mills on Race Across the World: The Detour.

Tonight, West is set to host guests including Kola Bokinni and Molly Rainford. Alfie Watts, the victor of Season 4, will also be there to offer valuable travel tips and strategies to the guests.

Over the past 24 hours, the scandal involving Mills has intensified after the BBC acknowledged that he was under police investigation back in 2017. According to the broadcaster, recent weeks have brought new details to light. Mills released a statement yesterday confirming the 2017 police investigation.

Mills was the winner of Celebrity Race Across the World in 2024 with his husband Sam Vaughan. Race Across The World: The Detour serves as a supplementary podcast, akin to The Traitors: Uncloaked.

The series Race Across the World and its celebrity edition, where pairs compete to travel across different regions on a limited budget using modes of transportation other than air travel, ranks among the BBC’s most beloved entertainment offerings. The Detour podcast was officially announced in a BBC podcast lineup on March 12.
