Daniel Radcliffe Doesn’t Want New ‘Harry Potter’ Cast To Be Asked About Original Cast To Not Be “Weird Spectral Phantoms”

Daniel Radcliffe is advocating for the fresh faces of the new Harry Potter series, urging fans to refrain from dwelling on comparisons with the original actors.

The famed actor, known for his role as the titular character in the eight-movie franchise, is enthusiastic about the upcoming HBO series based on J.K. Rowling’s novels. Radcliffe expressed his desire for the new young actors to enjoy their unique journey in these beloved roles.

After the announcement of the new cast for the Harry Potter series, Radcliffe highlighted the online community’s agreement to protect and support these young stars. He shared with ScreenRant, “If everyone is truly supportive, one favor you could do for me is to avoid constantly bringing up me, Emma [Watson], and Rupert [Grint].”

He added, “I’d prefer not to hover like some eerie ghost around these kids’ careers. Let them forge their own paths because this adaptation will be its own new, distinct entity.”

The roles of the iconic trio have been filled by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stour as Ron.

Radcliffe expressed confidence in McLaughlin’s capabilities, saying, “He’s likely to surpass my performance, and I genuinely hope they all enjoy their experience more than I did—I had a wonderful time, but I wish them an even better one.”

Last year, Radcliffe reached out to McLaughlin with a letter following his casting, wishing him, “the very best of times, better even than mine, which were incredible.”

During an interview with Good Morning America, Radcliffe reflected, “Seeing their photos, these kids look so young, it makes me want to give them a hug. It’s astonishing to think I was their age when I started. It’s very sweet, and I sincerely hope they’re enjoying every moment.”
