‘The Bondsman’ Canceled By Prime Video After One Season

Prime Video has decided to cancel its supernatural action series The Bondsman, featuring Kevin Bacon, after just one season.

This announcement arrives over a month following the release of the series’ eight half-hour episodes on April 3, which initially premiered at SXSW. Despite a strong start, with The Bondsman ranking ninth in the Nielsen Top 10 streaming chart for Originals during its debut week, accumulating 563 million minutes of viewership, the show did not maintain its momentum.

In its second week, The Bondsman fell from the Nielsen charts and despite its ongoing presence in the Top 10 on Prime Video’s platform in the U.S., where it currently ranks fifth, it hasn’t stirred much discussion online. The show did perform well critically and with audiences, holding an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Bondsman centers on Hub Halloran (played by Bacon), a bounty hunter who is murdered and then resurrected by the Devil. Tasked with capturing demons that have fled Hell’s confines, Hub, with both the help and obstruction from his distant family, comes to understand the sins that doomed his soul — driving him to pursue redemption and a renewed life filled with love and country music.

The show was produced by Blumhouse Television, Marker 96, and CrimeThink Production Company. The executive production team included Oleson, who also acted as showrunner, along with Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, and Chris McCumber from Blumhouse Television, Kevin Bacon, Paul E. Shapiro, and Grainger David, who originally created the series. Erik Holmberg was the co-executive producer.
