EXCLUSIVE: Blumhouse, the independent film studio, recently announced the dismissal of six employees from its film, television, and casting departments, a company spokesperson confirmed. The organization, which boasts approximately 100 employees, attributed these layoffs to a strategic reorganization that took place last week.
The individuals let go predominantly held junior-level positions or were part of the support team. Among them was Haley Pigman, Manager of Creative Development, known for her work on Blumhouse’s March release The Woman in the Yard, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
This staffing reduction surfaced two weeks following the underwhelming debut of M3GAN 2.0, a Blumhouse production that failed to meet expectations. None of the executives impacted by the layoffs were involved in the aforementioned film, according to sources.
The layoffs are part of a broader downsizing effort that began earlier in 2023 when Chris McCumber stepped down as President of Blumhouse Television, leading to fewer than ten layoffs. McCumber’s position was subsequently filled by Melissa Aouate, who was appointed as the new President of Television in April.

Blumhouse’s television department has been significantly affected by the current contraction in the TV industry. However, it still has high-profile projects in the pipeline, including the upcoming Scarpetta series on Prime Video featuring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.
On the movie front, the studio is preparing for the releases of Black Phone 2 on October 17 and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 on December 5.
