‘Sirens’ Debuts At No. 1 On Nielsen Top 10 As ‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 Concludes & ‘All American’ Season 7 Generates Interest On Netflix

Netflix clinched the top spot on the Nielsen streaming rankings in the last complete week of May, thanks to the premiere of its new dark comedy, Sirens.

The show kicked off on May 22 and quickly amassed 1.4 billion minutes streamed within just a few days. According to Nielsen, it was the only show to break the billion-minute mark from May 19 to 25. Notably, Sirens drew a significant viewership from Millennials and Generation X, with adults aged 35-64 making up 57% of its viewing time.

NCIS captured second place, marking its first time as the top acquired show in several years, with 824 million minutes viewed. Despite being a frequent presence in the Nielsen Top 10 with 265 appearances, this was a notable high for NCIS, which remains the most featured acquired show in the history of the list, just ahead of Grey’s Anatomy.

On Hulu, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives gained traction as it entered the second week of its second season. It ranked fourth, with 810 million minutes viewed, and the new season contributed approximately 86% of the total viewership for that period.

The period also included the Season 2 finale of HBO’s The Last of Us, which tallied another 707 million minutes. This total included same-day views on Max for the finale aired on May 25. It’s expected that the series will appear at least once more on the Top 10 as viewers anticipate the next season.

Nielsen categorizes The Last of Us as an acquired title since it also broadcasts on HBO, meaning Nielsen’s streaming measurements don’t fully account for each episode’s viewership. Across Season 2, the show accumulated 3.6 billion minutes viewed on streaming platforms alone.

Another high-performing acquired title this week was The CW’s All American, boosted by the release of Season 7 on Netflix. It landed in eighth place among acquired titles with 559 million minutes viewed. Adults aged 18-49 made up 55% of its viewership for the week, with Black viewers accounting for 30% of the total watched time.
