In 2026, the NFL is set to expand its global presence by hosting a regular-season game in a new international location.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed on Wednesday that Melbourne, Australia will be the next venue for an NFL regular-season game in 2026. This announcement marks Australia as the sixth country outside the U.S. to host an NFL game.
To date, NFL games have been played during the regular season in England, Mexico, Germany, Canada, and Brazil, with Brazil being the most recent addition in 2024.
The NFL has also confirmed a multi-year agreement for the games, with the Los Angeles Rams slated to play in the inaugural Melbourne game.
“Choosing Melbourne, a city known for its vibrant sports culture, as our next destination reflects our goal to transform the NFL into a global sport and push our international expansion,” Goodell stated. “In partnership with the Victorian State Government, Visit Victoria, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and featuring the Los Angeles Rams in 2026, we’re excited to create history in a critical market for the NFL.”
It’s likely that another West Coast team will accompany the Rams to Australia. The long haul flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne typically takes about 15 to 16 hours, and it’s expected that the teams would have a bye week following the trip.
