Commanders Give Pro Bowl DL Jonathan Allen Permission to Seek Trade
Throughout his entire professional career spanning eight years, Jonathan Allen has been a steadfast presence on the Washington Commanders’ defensive line.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed on Tuesday morning that Jonathan Allen, defensive tackle for the Washington Commanders, is expected to be traded during this offseason. Discussions about his trade have already commenced between the involved parties.

In efforts to ensure a beneficial transition for Allen, the Commanders are coordinating with his representatives to find an ideal new team for him. The two-time Pro Bowler has the possibilities of either being traded or becoming a free agent. He is in the final year of his four-year contract, which promises him a base salary of $15.5 million for the upcoming season, although this amount is not guaranteed.

Allen’s 2024 season was cut short after he suffered a pectoral tear in October, limiting him to just eight games. However, he made a comeback in time to participate in the last two regular season matches and all three postseason games for the Commanders, who were defeated in the NFC championship game by the future Super Bowl LIX champions, the Eagles.

In 2024, Allen recorded 19 tackles and three sacks. His performance peaked during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, which were also his Pro Bowl years, with impressive stats of 62 tackles and nine sacks, and 65 tackles and 7.5 sacks, respectively.
