Netflix is set to revisit the popular Norwegian thriller series La Palma.
The streaming giant has approved a mini-series follow-up called Florida after the original series secured a spot in the top 10 of Netflix’s foreign language rankings.
La Palma features Severance star Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal. The narrative, inspired in part by the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption, centers around a Norwegian family vacationing in the Canary Islands who face impending disaster as scientists discover evidence of a looming volcanic eruption capable of unleashing a massive tsunami.
Netflix announced today in Norway that Florida will commence mere hours after the eruption depicted in La Palma, shifting its lens to a Norwegian community in the U.S., still oblivious to the approaching catastrophic tsunami.

The series is penned by Lars Gudmestad and directed by Cecilie Mosli. It is produced by Fantefilm, a company noted for its “Scandisaster” productions, including La Palma and The Burning Sea.
Gudmestad expressed, “Creating Florida has been a longtime dream of mine, and I’m thrilled that Netflix shares our vision for the project. We aim to craft a riveting disaster series that resonates with viewers through relatable, compelling characters, and having Cecilie, a skilled and seasoned director, join us is incredibly reassuring.”
Mosli shared, “Dramas that explore human reactions to crises offer a compelling foundation. With La Palma, Lars Gudmestad, Fantefilm, and Netflix successfully merged large-scale disaster scenarios with deeply personal stories. I am proud and excited to contribute to this new venture, Florida.”
