WWE Celebrates Record-Breaking Royal Rumble Viewership
WWE has announced that this year’s Royal Rumble event has achieved unprecedented viewership numbers, setting a new record for the annual spectacle.
Internal data revealed by WWE indicates that viewership for the event on Peacock in the United States rose by nearly 16% compared to last year. Internationally, the viewership on Netflix saw an even more significant increase, although specific figures were not disclosed by the company.
The 2023 Royal Rumble marked a notable first, being streamed on Netflix as part of a decade-long agreement between WWE and the streaming giant. This deal not only includes the broadcast rights for Royal Rumble but also extends to Monday Night Raw and other major WWE content. With this arrangement, Netflix has become the exclusive streaming hub for all WWE programming and special events outside of the United States, encompassing other popular shows like SmackDown and NXT.
Prior editions of the event were accessible through pay-per-view and were also streamed on Peacock and the WWE Network. It’s likely that the inclusion of Netflix in the distribution mix has contributed to the surge in viewership numbers for the Royal Rumble.
Spotlight on New Talent
Following the excitement of the Royal Rumble, WWE has also unveiled plans for WWE Evolve, a new platform designed to highlight emerging wrestling talent. The initiative aims to serve as a launching pad for future stars, helping them transition to larger stages like NXT, SmackDown, and eventually Raw.
The inaugural episode of WWE Evolve is scheduled to air on March 5 on Tubi, with subsequent episodes releasing every Wednesday. This new series will provide a fresh setting for new wrestlers to showcase their skills and build their reputations within the competitive world of professional wrestling.
In summary, WWE’s strategic partnership with Netflix and the launch of new talent-centric programs like WWE Evolve underscore the company’s commitment to expanding its audience and nurturing the next generation of wrestling superstars.
