Josh Simon, a seasoned executive previously with Netflix, Disney, and Nike, has been appointed as the new CEO of Funko, a leading entity in the fandom and pop culture arena. He will oversee an extensive array of brands such as Funko, Loungefly, and Mondo, which include a diverse range of products like vinyl figures, collectibles, fashion items, apparel, action toys, and art.
Simon’s move to Funko follows an impressive tenure at Netflix, where he served as Vice President of Consumer Products. During his time there, he was responsible for global merchandise, immersive live experiences, and the Roald Dahl Story Company. His accomplishments include scaling up the division and launching a plethora of products tied to some of Netflix’s major hits like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Squid Game. His earlier career also includes significant roles in feature film production and development at Disney Motion Picture Group and DreamWorks-based Color Force Productions, along with time in Disney’s corporate strategy and development division.
At Funko, Simon takes over from interim CEO Mike Lunsford and also joins the company’s board.
“Josh is an extraordinary leader whose vast experience in the entertainment and consumer product sectors aligns perfectly with what Funko needs in its next CEO,” commented Charles Denson, Funko’s chairman. “His expertise in operations, licensing, and strategic planning, honed at prestigious companies like Netflix, Nike, and The Walt Disney Company, makes him an invaluable addition to our team. We are thrilled to have him lead as we pursue significant growth opportunities moving forward.”
Simon expressed his enthusiasm about joining Funko, stating, “Funko is a legendary company with a massive, passionate fan base which I have great respect for. The current strength of pop culture and the ongoing enthusiasm for engaging with beloved lifestyle brands are at an all-time high. There are numerous opportunities to further cultivate Funko’s unique culture of fandom and expand our reach to benefit both our customers and shareholders.”
