Lori Loughlin’s ‘On Call’ Role Gave Her “New Appreciation” For Law Enforcement

After a significant turn in her personal life involving a guilty plea, Lori Loughlin is now tackling the role of a law enforcement officer on television.

In the wake of her and her spouse Mossimo Giannulli’s 2019 charges in the infamous Operation Varsity Blues college admissions scandal, the Emmy-nominated actress shared that her preparation for playing Lt. Bishop in the Prime Video show On Call included participating in police ride-alongs, which she found thrilling and eye-opening.

“I gained a profound respect for what law enforcement officers endure,” she commented during an interview with Entertainment Tonight about her experience with the series, produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

On Call, which debuted on January 9th on the streaming service, features Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente. They play experienced and novice police officers, respectively, patrolling the streets of Long Beach, California, under the supervision of Loughlin’s straightforward character.

Enthusiastic about her involvement, Loughlin expressed how eager she was to join the project helmed by executive producer Dick Wolf along with creators Elliot Wolf and Tim Walsh. “I was incredibly excited,” she enthused.

“I never realized I could portray such a tough character,” Loughlin admitted about her role as Lt. Bishop. “I was ready for anything. They told me on the first day that my hair highlights had to go, and my response was simply, ‘Fine.’”

This role marks Loughlin’s significant return to television following her two-month prison stint in late 2020, after admitting to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud by dishonestly paying $500,000 to secure her daughters’ admissions into USC.

Previously, Loughlin humorously referenced her legal troubles in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm this year, where she played a golfer accused of cheating, who then has to navigate her way into Larry David’s exclusive country club.
