‘Jeopardy’s Ken Jennings Issues Apology To John Pork After Backlash Over “AI-Generated” Label In Clue

The game show Jeopardy often features incredibly smart contestants, yet sometimes even they find themselves stumped, leading to an unusual scenario where host Ken Jennings had to offer an apology to the audience.

On the October 17 episode, a question involving the John Pork meme sparked discussions and confusion among the viewers.

This peculiar character was mentioned in a question under the category “Daddy, is there really a…”

The clue provided was: “No: A.I. generated the TikTok image of this pig/human who was eventually killed by Tim Cheese.”

None of the contestants managed to identify the viral internet character correctly, with Jennings himself admitting, “I didn’t understand any of that.”

As the episode circulated on social media, fans were quick to point out inaccuracies, noting that John Pork first appeared online around 2018. At that time, A.I. tools that generate such content were not commonly available to the general public. While many social media creators now utilize AI to craft new memes featuring the character, that wasn’t the case when he first became popular.

Following the feedback from Jeopardy enthusiasts, Jennings extended an apology to the fictional character John Pork.

“In a recent Jeopardy episode featuring a clue about John Pork, I commented that I didn’t grasp a single word,” Jennings remarked humorously in a TikTok video. “Since then, I’ve learned quite a bit about the infamous Mr. Pork, including that some fans were upset by our reference to him as ‘AI-generated.’”

He added, “While AI technology plays a significant role in many of his TikTok videos, perhaps it wasn’t the most accurate description of his initial appearances. John, I hope you can forgive me and everyone at Jeopardy for any offense we might have caused to you or your legacy.”
