BREAKING NEWS: Timothy Busfield has been let go by Innovative Artists on the day he appeared in court for the first time facing allegations of child sexual abuse.
A spokesperson for the agency confirmed that the actor and director is no longer represented by them, but chose not to provide additional details. Busfield had been a client at IA for many years, managed by a significant team.
Busfield faces charges including two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, tied to accusations involving two young boys, both actors on The Cleaning Lady, a show he directed several episodes of. One of the boys, identified as SL in court documents, reported that Busfield touched his genital and anal areas.
The Emmy-winning actor surrendered to the Albuquerque police on January 13, reportedly driving from the East Coast to New Mexico himself.

His surrender occurred just five days after an arrest warrant was issued and the US Marshals were tasked with his capture. Currently held at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, the 68-year-old, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, appeared via video during a court session presided over by Judge Felicia Blea-Rivera on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite assertions of his innocence made the previous day, Busfield did not enter a plea during the hearing. He had previously stated in a video, “I did not do anything to those little boys.”
This morning’s court proceedings included a motion from the Bernalillo County DA’s office asking to keep Busfield detained without bond. The motion also disclosed a new allegation of sexual abuse concerning a 16-year-old girl from an incident that allegedly occurred nearly 30 years ago during an audition at a theatre program established by Busfield.
If convicted, Busfield could face over a decade in prison for the felonies related to the two boys from The Cleaning Lady. His defense, led by Larry Stein, expects to return to court within five business days for a hearing concerning a pre-trial detention motion.
The document from today’s filing stated, “No conditions of release will reasonably protect the safety of any other person or the community.”
In a critical twist to his defense, Busfield disclosed to APD Officer Marvin Brown during a phone interview on November 3, 2025, that he suspected revenge might be a motive behind the allegations. He recounted a 2024 conversation with Cleaning Lady star Elodie Yung, who allegedly mentioned that the mother of SL and VL wanted revenge against Busfield for not casting her children in the final season.
It was only last September, after initial claims involving less severe actions like tickling and kissing the children’s heads, that the allegations escalated. The mother of VL and SL approached the police again, this time reporting that SL had disclosed more serious abuse to his counselor.
Besides the allegations involving the two boys born in 2014 who appeared on The Cleaning Lady before being phased out due to age, Busfield has faced two other sexual assault allegations from incidents in 1994 and 2012 involving a 17-year-old girl and a 28-year-old woman, respectively. Busfield was never charged in these cases, although he was compelled to pay $150,000 over legal fees tied to an unsuccessful countersuit in the mid-1990s.
