Sarah Michelle Gellar is gearing up for her return as the iconic Buffy Summers, training with the newly cast lead of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series reboot.
On her social media, Gellar posted a video of herself and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who stars in the upcoming Hulu pilot, engaging in a workout session together.
Gellar humorously captioned her Instagram update, “Warrior 1 and 2. We don’t sweat… we sparkle.”
Hulu has commissioned the pilot for the reboot where Gellar will reprise her role, with Chloé Zhao slated to direct the episode.
“I’ve always paid attention to the fans and understood your eagerness to revisit Buffy and her universe. However, it was crucial that it be done correctly,” Gellar expressed following Hulu’s confirmation of the pilot. “It’s been a lengthy process, and it’s still ongoing. I assure you, we’ll only proceed if we’re confident we can do this justice. I can say we’re definitely on the right track.”

She continued, “I am incredibly fortunate to embark on this journey with four exceptionally talented women who cherish ‘Buffy’ as much as I do—and as much as you do. A huge thank you to all the fans who never ceased requesting this. This one is for you.”
In May, Deadline exclusively revealed that Armstrong was selected to lead in the Buffy reboot. The casting notes describe Armstrong’s character as a reserved high-school student.
“From the moment I watched Ryan’s audition tape, she was the only choice for me,” Gellar praised Armstrong. “To possess such emotional depth and talent at her young age is truly remarkable. Plus, her smile could brighten even the gloomiest of spaces.”
