It was announced on Tuesday that Jason Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle, is retiring after a distinguished 19-year career in the NFL.
However, he isn’t completely stepping away from his NFL duties just yet.
The Seattle Seahawks, where he spent his last playing season in 2023, have brought him on board as a veteran mentor within their front office. John Schneider, the Seahawks general manager, explained at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday that Peters will engage in player relations, focusing particularly on mentoring offensive linemen in this full-time capacity.
So much for “retirement.”

Peters participated in eight games for the Seahawks in 2023, and then he took a position on the team’s practice squad last season.
At 43 years old, Peters brings a wealth of NFL experience to his new role with the Seahawks. He began his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2004, where he played for five seasons before moving to the Philadelphia Eagles. His most successful years were with the Eagles, earning seven Pro Bowl selections over 11 seasons and clinching a Super Bowl victory in 2018. He departed from Philadelphia in 2021.
Peters has competed in a total of 248 NFL games throughout his career.
