It seems the return of Jalen Hurts, quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, will be delayed a bit longer.
Nick Sirianni, the Eagles’ head coach, updated the media on Friday, suggesting Hurts is likely to miss the upcoming week. Later that day, it was officially decided that Hurts would not play in Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
“He’s still going through the medical protocol. It looks challenging for him to be ready this week,” commented Sirianni.
During last week’s game against the Washington Commanders, Hurts had to leave the field in the first quarter after a severe hit from linebacker Frankie Luvu caused his head to hit the ground, leading to a concussion diagnosis shortly thereafter.
In Hurts’s absence, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett stepped in during the game against the Commanders. Pickett, who sustained some injuries himself last Sunday, plans to wear additional padding to safeguard his ribs. Tanner McKee, a recent sixth-round pick from Stanford in 2023, will be Pickett’s main backup.
The Eagles’ defeat to the Commanders decreased their chances of securing the top seed in the NFC, yet they still have a shot at clinching their division.
A victory over the Cowboys this Sunday would not only secure their second division title in three years but would also render their Week 18 game against the Giants almost irrelevant, potentially offering Hurts and other key players extra rest before the playoffs.
