‘War Machine’ Breaks Through On Netflix As Dino-Content Takes Over Streamer From New Spielberg Docuseries ‘The Dinosaurs’ To Jurassic World Franchise

This past week on Netflix showcased a wild variety of viewer preferences, spanning from the Alan Ritchson and Dennis Quaid feature War Machine to fresh seasons of Bridgerton and The Night Agent, not to mention an array of dinosaur-themed offerings.

While some viewers are already looking forward to the next installment of Bridgerton, many are still caught up in the romantic twists of Benedict (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie (portrayed by Yerin Ha) in the fourth season.

The latest season continued its reign at the top of Netflix’s TV charts with 13.1 million views from March 2 to 8, covering the first full week after the season finale launched on February 26. This follows a significant viewership spike to 28 million views during its debut weekend after the release of additional episodes.

Netflix’s approach to calculating viewership for split seasons adds a layer of complexity. Initial views are calculated using the runtime of just the first batch of episodes. However, as more episodes are released, the total runtime increases, and the same number of viewing hours can result in a lower calculated viewership for the latter half.

In its opening week alone, the first four episodes of Season 4 attracted 23.4 million views.

Moving to Netflix’s adaptations of popular books, The Night Agent has demonstrated solid viewership, securing the third spot on the Top 10 list this week with 5.2 million views. Following our previous report, this continued success likely paved the way for its recent renewal.

A new documentary series produced by Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, titled The Dinosaurs, narrated by Morgan Freeman, surpassed the political thriller to claim second place. The series, which explores the evolution and extinction of dinosaurs across the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, garnered 10.4 million views.

Dinosaur-themed content indeed resonated with Netflix viewers, as evidenced by the Jurassic World films dominating the English movie list. Jurassic World Rebirth ranked second with 6.7 million views, followed by the original Jurassic World at sixth place with 3.2 million views, Jurassic World: Dominion in eighth with 2.8 million views, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom tenth with 2.5 million views.

In other TV news, the Rachel Weisz-led dark comedy Vladimir captured the fourth spot with 4.2 million views. In the film category, the top spot was claimed by the new science fiction military action film War Machine, which pulled in an impressive 39.3 million views.

Regarding the World Baseball Classic, it’s important to note that these games do not factor into the Netflix Global Weekly Top 10 as they are streamed exclusively in Japan. The viewership statistics for these games will be released after the tournament concludes. This approach is consistent with how Netflix handles NFL games, where they rely on a mix of third-party and proprietary data to gauge performance.
