As reported by Jon Heyman, Gleyber Torres, aged 28, has finalized a contract with the Tigers. Last season, Torres hit .257 with an on-base percentage of .330 and a slugging percentage of .378, including 15 home runs and 63 RBIs over 154 games with the Yankees. This agreement follows his decision to reject an offer from the Washington Nationals, who proposed he switch to third base. Over the past two seasons, Torres has exclusively played at second base, though he has also seen significant time at shortstop during his career.

In Detroit, Torres joins a packed infield roster, including Colt Keith and Andy Ibañez who share duties at second base, Trey Sweeney and Javier Baez at shortstop, and Jace Jung and Matt Vierling at third base. Under the management of A.J. Hinch, who navigated the team through a platoon-heavy 2024 season, Torres’s right-handed batting adds another layer to the team’s strategic options.
It remains to be seen if Torres can rediscover the form that earned him All-Star selections in his first two major league seasons. His performance improved significantly in the second half of 2024, improving his overall offensive output and reducing his strikeouts.
