The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards television nominations have highlighted two unusual occurrences: a dual posthumous nomination for actors Treat Williams and Ron Cephas Jones in the same category, and actress Anna Sawai receiving two nominations for her roles in non-English language series, Shōgun and Pachinko.
In the category of Supporting Actor In a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television, both Williams and Cephas Jones, who passed away within two months of each other last summer, have been nominated. Williams earned his nod for his portrayal of William Paley in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and Cephas Jones for his role as Elijah Muhammad in Nat Geo’s Genius: MLK/X. Other nominees in this category include Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer), Hugh Grant (The Regime), Logan Lerman (We Were the Lucky Ones), and Liev Schreiber (The Perfect Couple).
Williams was also posthumously nominated for an Emmy for Feud, while Cephas Jones, a two-time Emmy winner for This Is Us, received a nomination for a Black Reel Award for Genius.

Anna Sawai, star of Shōgun, received a nomination for Actress In a Drama Series CCA for her portrayal of the tragic Lady Mariko in FX/Hulu’s period drama set in feudal Japan. Surprisingly, she also secured a nomination for Supporting Actress In a Drama Series for her role in another period drama, Apple TV+’s Pachinko, set primarily in Japan.
Sawai, a Japanese actress, is featured in the 1980s storyline of Pachinko, a series that covers multiple countries and spans several decades. Her character, Naomi, who primarily speaks Japanese in Season 2, has earned Sawai the distinction of possibly being the first actor to receive two major American award nominations for roles performed in a language other than English.
Pachinko has also been nominated in the Foreign Language Series category, which it won previously in 2023; Shōgun leads the CCA nominations with six, including for Drama Series.
