Anthony Mackie Jokingly Takes Credit For His White Co-Stars Getting Nominated: “I’m The White Dude Legend”

Anthony Mackie, a seasoned actor known for his roles in both film and television, is thrilled to receive recognition with his recent Emmy nominations.

He’s celebrating his first Emmy nods for his performances in The Studio and Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast. Initially, he expected the nominations to go to one of his Caucasian colleagues.

“I was completely unaware. I was at work,” he shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “You know, when I’m at work, I’m fully committed. If there’s a paycheck involved, I’m all in.”

Then, whispers of the Emmy nominations began circulating on set. Mackie recalled, “I look around and everyone’s congratulating me. And my first thought was, ‘Which white guy got it this time?’ I mean, I’ve built a reputation as the guy who brings luck to his white co-stars. I’m the one who made Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson, Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker, Bryan Cranston in All the Way, and now Ron Howard, superstars. If you want a nomination, come work with me. I’m the secret ingredient, the magic touch.”

Mackie is a contender for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, alongside other notable nominees from The Studio such as Howard, Cranston, Martin Scorsese, and Dave Franco, as well as Jon Bernthal from The Bear.

“I’m honored to be nominated, truly,” he expressed to Fallon. “But let’s be real, it’s Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese in the race. So, realistically, I’m eyeing second place. Those two will split the votes, and I’ll be right there. Winning isn’t everything; to be nominated alongside such legends is the real victory. Imagine, one of them might lose to me, and that’s got them nervous!”
