GM Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid recently discussed Travis Kelce during the NFL combine.
Among the key topics this NFL offseason has been the potential retirement of star tight end Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly given the 35-year-old until March 14 to decide if he wants to retire or continue playing. Kelce himself has mentioned that he is “kicking every can that I can down the road” when it comes to making this significant decision.
However, a recent statement from Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach at the combine on Tuesday suggests that the future Hall of Famer might return to Arrowhead for another season. “I’m not sure how [head coach Andy Reid] responded to that. At the end of the season, [Kelce] was enthusiastic, he has one more year on his contract,” Veach shared with reporters. “I believe he still has the passion and desire to play, and as far as I’m concerned, there’s no deadline. We expect he’ll be back, and we’re excited to have him and get started.”
Travis Kelce’s potential return? Brett Veach seems to think Kelce is eager for his last contracted year and isn’t considering retirement, based on conversations at the end of the season.
Regarding Coach Reid’s comments, he didn’t reveal much. Essentially, the head coach confirmed he had spoken with Kelce, though he didn’t specify the details, and mentioned that he advised his players to take it easy before diving back into preparations for the next season.

The final decision, of course, rests with Kelce himself—we expect an official announcement, likely on his “New Heights” podcast. Yet, it’s clear that Veach is publicly leaning towards another year, while Reid remains relatively quiet. Fans are hopeful to see No. 87 in red and gold again in the fall, but ultimately, he has the right to choose what’s best for him.
