Mike Gundy has resolved his contract disputes with Oklahoma State and will continue as their football head coach after a challenging season that ended with a 3–9 record.
According to Brett McMurphy from the Action Network, both parties have reached an agreement to modify Gundy’s contract, though specific details have yet to be made public. The first to break the news of the agreement was the Pokes Report.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted on Friday that the university had proposed a revised contract for the Cowboys coach, likely including a salary reduction. The institution also considered terminating Gundy if he refused the new terms. Currently, Gundy is the 17th highest paid head coach in the nation, according to the USA Today football coaching salaries database, with over $25 million due if his contract were terminated.
In response to what is being considered his worst season at Stillwater and only the second losing season in his 20-year tenure, Gundy is currently restructuring his coaching team. After a 4–7 start in his first year, Gundy had maintained 18 consecutive winning seasons, a streak that ended in 2024.
The program dismissed offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn and defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo this Wednesday.
Despite preseason predictions placing Oklahoma State third in the Big 12 with 14 votes to win the conference, the team ended up winless in Big 12 competition, a unique situation among the now 16 teams in the conference, finishing with fewer than two wins.
