Jets Tab Broncos Assistant GM as Next General Manager Ahead of Key Offseason

Darren Mougey is set to have his hands full.

Just three days after appointing Aaron Glenn as their new head coach, the New York Jets have reportedly found their new general manager. Darren Mougey, who has been serving as the assistant general manager for the Denver Broncos, is set to take the top management role with the Jets, as per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday afternoon.

“Mougey was instrumental in two Super Bowl teams, and his contributions were significant in the Broncos’ strong performance this season,” Schefter noted.

Born in Scottsdale, Arizona, Mougey spent his college years playing as a quarterback and wide receiver at San Diego State from 2005 to 2008. He joined the Broncos’ organization in 2012, starting as a scouting intern and climbing his way up to assistant general manager.

A recent tweet from Adam Schefter highlighted Mougey’s appointment: “A new GM in New York: Jets are hiring Broncos assistant G.M. Darren Mougey as their new general manager, per sources. Mougey has worked with three head coaches who reached the Super Bowl: Sean Payton, Gary Kubiak, and John Fox. The Jets, who dismissed their previous general manager Joe Douglas on November 19 after a six-year tenure, are at a critical juncture. The team is currently dealing with uncertainty around quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s future and is experiencing the longest playoff drought of any team in the four major North American men’s professional sports leagues, having last appeared in the postseason in 2010.
