Rachel Corp, the esteemed chief executive of the renowned British news organization ITN, has announced her immediate resignation after nearly four years at the helm.
The sudden departure of Corp has left her colleagues stunned. She will be succeeded by Ian Rumsey, currently the head of ITN Productions. This appointment marks a significant reversal for Rumsey, who had recently declared his intention to move to Zinc Media Group, a competitor, just last month.
Although Corp will continue to work out of the ITN offices until May 22, Rumsey will assume the chief executive responsibilities without delay. Corp stated that her decision came after “considerable reflection” and expressed a desire to explore new ventures.
In recent developments, there has been speculation about Corp being considered for the CEO position at BBC News, following the departure of Deborah Turness last year, which was mired in controversy due to a mishandled edit involving Donald Trump on the program Panorama.

“Being a part of ITN has significantly shaped my life and career over the past three decades, and it has been an honor to collaborate with such a skilled group of colleagues,” Corp remarked. “I take immense pride in having guided ITN through pivotal times for public service journalism and reliable content amidst the dramatic shifts in our industry.”
ITN is responsible for producing the news for ITV and Channel 4, including Good Morning Britain—recently taken over from ITV Studios—and 5 News, which airs on the Paramount-owned network.
Since 2021, Rumsey has led the production division at ITN, overseeing factual programming such as Netflix’s The Investigation of Lucy Letby and the Manhunt series.
Rumsey expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, “ITN is an extraordinary place, brimming with exceptional individuals, top-tier journalism, and storytelling. Above all, it embodies a distinctive spirit and attitude. Like all media companies, we face significant challenges, but the opportunities and potential before us are vast.”
Kyla Mullins, Chair of ITN, did not comment directly on Corp’s tenure as CEO but lauded Rumsey as an “exceptional leader in both editorial and executive capacities.”
She further added, “ITN continues to stand as a highly esteemed and trustworthy news source both in the UK and internationally, as well as a major content creator on the global stage. Despite the fast-paced changes in the media landscape, we are optimistic about the future of ITN, the strength of our journalistic and production teams, and the forthcoming opportunities.”
