NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that shortly after his release from the New York Giants, veteran quarterback Daniel Jones is joining the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad.
Following his high-priced contract, it was anticipated that Jones would clear waivers. Now available, he has opted to join the Vikings, aiming to be part of a team with playoff aspirations.
It will be intriguing to see what the future holds for Jones in Minnesota, especially with Sam Darnold’s impressive performance under Kevin O’Connell’s guidance in his debut season, and the team’s investment in rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason.
Joining the #Vikings was a straightforward decision for Jones. It’s just a practice squad role, so there’s minimal risk involved. They only have one quarterback signed through 2025, so this move could benefit them both now and in the future. It doesn’t eliminate the possibility of Sam Darnold’s return. Just a safeguard. https://t.co/vjYg6NsFka

Over his six-year career, Jones has completed 64.1% of his passes, throwing for 14,582 yards and 70 touchdowns against 47 interceptions.
