Brad Stevens has decisively removed himself from consideration for the head coaching vacancy at Indiana University. Recent news has suggested that Indiana’s current coach, Mike Woodson, is likely to not return next season, though he intends to complete the current one.
Recent updates confirm Stevens is content with his role as the president of basketball operations and interim general manager for the Boston Celtics, and has no interest in returning to his native state for a new position. In a discussion with Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Stevens expressed that he is not considering the Indiana job.
“I deeply value my role with the Celtics and cherish working with the team daily,” Stevens communicated to Goodman and The Field of 68.

Stevens previously achieved notable success as head coach at Butler from 2007 to 2013, where he led the team to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and two consecutive national championship games. He transitioned to the Celtics as head coach in 2013, before moving into a front office role before the 2021-22 season.
Indiana currently stands at 15-10 this season, with a less-than-ideal 6-8 record in Big Ten play. Last season, the Hoosiers finished with a 19-14 record and did not make it to the NCAA Tournament. Woodson has been at the helm since 2021, amassing a 78-50 record to date. Despite the need for a new coach, Stevens will not be fulfilling this role at Indiana.
